As one of the largest countries in Western Europe, Germany has plenty to offer tourists - from beautiful Alpine escapes in the south to miles of beaches along the North Sea in the north, from delicious wine and cuisine in the Rhine Valley region to bustling shopping and entertainment districts in the country's large cities. Bordered on the west by France, Belgium and the Netherlands, on the east by Poland and the Czech Republic, and to the south by Switzerland and Austria, Germany is ideally located at the epicentre of Europe. Exploring the country's large urban areas, such as Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Nuremberg, reveal delights as diverse as busy harbours, picturesque Gothic and medieval architecture, high-tech skyscrapers, and beautiful park areas. The capital, Berlin, is home to the Museuminsel (an island of museums), remnants of the Berlin Wall, the Reichstag (German parliament), the Berliner Dom and Kaiser Wilhelm Gedachtniskirche, and the German and Jewish History Museums.
Germany is serviced by a large number of busy airports, including Frankfurt International Airport (third busiest in Europe), and Munich, Dusseldorf, Berlin Tegel, Hamburg, and Berlin Schoenfeld International airports. As one of the major international air travel hubs, Frankfurt operates as a major base for Lufthansa as well as being visited by British Airways and FlyBe amongst others. As the second busiest airport in Germany, Munich is visited by British Airways, Aer Lingus, Easy Jet and Lufthansa amongst many more. Germany is criss-crossed by the speed-limit-less Auto Bahns, and is an incredibly easy country to navigate by car. Car hire companies present in the country include Sixt, Avis, Hertz, Budget, National-Alamo and Europcar.
